For image modes, each page is rendered to a canvas at a chosen DPI and re-encoded as a JPEG at a target quality, then assembled into a new, smaller PDF. For Lossless mode, the document is re-saved with optimized object streams and (optionally) stripped metadata, with no quality loss. The target-size feature probes the first page at several quality levels to model the size curve, then picks the highest quality that still fits your target.
All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript and open PDF libraries. Nothing is uploaded, the tool works offline once loaded, and your file is released from memory when you close or reset the page.
