About the PDF Crop Tool (English)
Cropping a PDF means changing the visible area of its pages — trimming away the parts you do not want and keeping the region that matters. Scanned documents often carry wide, uneven borders; slide decks exported to PDF can have empty margins; and a report or diagram may only need a small portion of a large page. The ApneSoftware PDF Crop tool lets you reframe every page precisely, either by eye with a visual crop box or by exact numbers, all inside your browser and without uploading anything.
The centre of the tool is a visual crop box drawn over a live preview of your page. You can drag the whole box to reposition it and use its eight handles — four corners and four edges — to resize it, with the area outside the box shaded so you can clearly see what will be removed. The interaction works with both a mouse and touch, so you can crop just as easily on a tablet as on a desktop. Optional grid lines (rule-of-thirds) help you compose the crop, and a snap-to-edges option makes it easy to align the box exactly to the page boundary when you want to trim only one or two sides.
For pixel-accurate work you are not limited to dragging. The tool exposes precise numeric controls: enter the exact X and Y position and the width and height of the crop in PDF points, and the box updates instantly. Alternatively, think in terms of margins to remove — type how many points to trim from the left, right, top and bottom, or set a single value and remove an equal margin from all four sides at once. This is the fastest way to shave a consistent border off a scanned book or to square up a document with slightly different edges.
Aspect-ratio presets make it simple to crop to a standard shape. Choose Free to crop to any shape, or lock the box to Square (1:1), 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, A4, Letter or Legal proportions — or enter your own custom ratio. When a ratio is locked, resizing keeps that proportion automatically, which is ideal when you need every page cropped to the same shape for a slideshow, a print layout or a consistent set of figures. The Auto-crop button goes a step further: it scans the page, finds the bounding box of the actual content, and sets the crop to trim the surrounding white space automatically, with a small safety padding so nothing important is clipped.
Because different pages sometimes need different treatment, the tool includes flexible page targeting. Apply your crop to all pages, only the first page, only the last, all odd or all even pages, or a precise custom range such as 1-3, 5, 8-10. A live preview with page navigation and zoom lets you move through the document and confirm the crop looks right on every page before you commit, and undo, redo and reset mean you can experiment freely and step back if a change is not quite right.
It is worth understanding how cropping works technically, because it affects what you can expect. This tool sets each page's crop box — the region a viewer displays and a printer prints — rather than deleting the underlying content. That means cropping is lossless and fully reversible in principle: the trimmed content is hidden, not destroyed, so quality is never reduced and the operation is fast even on large files. It also means most PDF readers will honour the crop and show only the region you kept, which is exactly what you want for reading, printing and sharing.
When you are happy with the result, the output options let you rename the downloaded file, choose whether to preserve or remove the document metadata (title, author and similar fields), and optionally compress the output. You can download the cropped PDF immediately or send it straight to your printer. Password-protected PDFs that you are authorised to open are handled locally, and large multi-hundred-page documents are supported, processed on your own machine.
Everything about the tool is built around privacy and convenience. Your document never leaves your device: it is read, previewed, cropped and saved entirely in the browser using JavaScript, with nothing uploaded, stored or logged. There is no account to create and no software to install, and we never add our own watermark to your file. Whether you are a student trimming lecture scans, a designer reframing artwork, an office worker squaring up merged documents, or anyone who simply wants tighter, cleaner pages, the PDF Crop tool produces a precise, professional result in seconds.
