🖨️ Print smarter — booklets and multi-up sheets from any PDF

The Professional PDF Booklet & N-up Printing Tool re-arranges the pages of a PDF onto printed sheets exactly the way a print shop would. Fit two, four, six, eight, nine or sixteen pages onto one sheet to save paper, or impose your document as a proper saddle-stitch booklet that folds into a little book. It gives you full control over paper size, orientation, margins, the binding gutter, gaps, scaling, rotation, page order and range, and lets you add a watermark, headers and footers, and professional crop and registration marks. Everything is composed as true vector output with pdf-lib, so text stays crisp and files stay small, and none of it ever leaves your browser.

⚙️ How it works

When you add a PDF, the tool loads it with pdf-lib and embeds each page as a reusable vector object. For N-up it creates new sheets at your chosen paper size and draws the pages into a grid of cells, scaling and positioning each one according to your settings. For a booklet it first works out the imposition order — the sequence in which pages must be placed so that, once every sheet is printed double-sided and folded in half, the pages appear in the right order — then lays them out two-up. Because the pages are copied as vectors rather than rasterised into images, the result is sharp at any zoom and print resolution, and the file stays lightweight even for long documents.

📖 Booklet printing

Booklet mode produces a saddle-stitch imposition: your pages are reordered and placed two per side so that when you print double-sided, stack, fold down the middle and staple along the spine, you get a booklet that reads front to back. The tool pads the page count to a multiple of four with blanks where needed, and a binding gutter option adds inner margin for the fold. This is ideal for programmes, zines, menus, order-of-service sheets and small manuals produced on an ordinary office printer.

🗂️ N-up printing

N-up (or "multiple pages per sheet") shrinks several pages onto one, which is perfect for handouts, lecture notes, drafts and proof sheets. Two-up halves your paper use; four-up quarters it; nine- and sixteen-up create compact thumbnail sheets for review. You choose how the pages flow through the grid — left-to-right, right-to-left, top-to-bottom or bottom-to-top — and how each page is scaled and rotated to fit its cell.

📐 Paper sizes

Output sheets can be A3, A4, A5, Letter, Legal or Tabloid, or a custom size in millimetres, in portrait, landscape or an automatically chosen orientation. Auto orientation picks whichever way fits your grid best — for example, 2-up usually works best on a landscape sheet, while 4-up suits portrait.

👁️ Preview

Before you download, a live preview renders the imposed sheet with PDF.js so you can check the layout, margins and scaling, navigate between sheets and zoom in. What you see is exactly what the downloaded, print-ready PDF contains.

🔒 Privacy

This tool is privacy-first. Your PDF is loaded and imposed entirely in your browser with pdf-lib and PDF.js; no page or byte is ever uploaded to a server, shared with analytics, or processed by any AI service. Once the page and its libraries have loaded, it works offline, and closing the tab clears everything. That keeps confidential documents, contracts and unpublished designs entirely under your control.

ℹ️ About This Tool

The Professional PDF Booklet & N-up Printing Tool is a free, browser-based imposition tool that rearranges a PDF's pages onto printed sheets the way professional printing does. It began as a simple two-up/four-up utility for saving paper and has grown into a complete imposition workspace, because "putting several pages on one sheet" and "making a booklet" are jobs with a surprising amount of hidden detail: the paper size, which way the pages flow, how much space to leave for a staple or fold, how to scale pages that do not quite fit, and — for booklets — the non-obvious order the pages must be placed in so that a folded stack reads correctly. This tool handles all of that, produces genuine print-ready output, and does it entirely on your own device.

The core of the tool is a vector imposition engine built on pdf-lib, an open-source PDF library written in JavaScript. Rather than converting your pages into images — which would blur text and inflate the file — it embeds each source page as a reusable vector form and draws those forms onto new sheets. This matters for print quality: the output stays razor sharp at any resolution, and because nothing is rasterised, even a long document produces a compact PDF that a printer handles smoothly. It also means the whole operation is fast and memory-friendly, so large PDFs impose without freezing the browser.

In N-up mode you decide how many pages share a sheet. The presets cover the common cases — one, two, four, six, eight, nine and sixteen up — and a custom grid lets you set any number of columns and rows for unusual layouts. You control how the pages march through that grid with four reading orders (left-to-right, right-to-left, top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top), which is essential for right-to-left languages and for matching the way a particular document should be read. Each page is then fitted into its cell using the scaling mode you prefer: fit keeps the whole page visible with margins, fill covers the cell, stretch forces an exact fit, actual keeps the original size, and custom scales by a percentage you type. Auto-rotation turns a page ninety degrees when that makes it fill its cell better, and you can also force a fixed rotation. Around the pages you set an outer margin, horizontal and vertical gaps, and a binding gutter for the inner edge.

Booklet mode is where the tool earns its "professional" label. Producing a saddle-stitch booklet by hand is genuinely fiddly: for a document to read correctly after printing double-sided, folding down the middle and stapling the spine, the pages have to be placed in a specific interleaved order — the last page next to the first, the second next to the second-last, and so on — two to a side. The tool computes this imposition automatically, pads the page count to a multiple of four with blank pages so the folds work out, and adds a gutter so text is not lost in the fold. The result is a PDF you can send straight to a duplex printer to fold into a proper little book, ideal for event programmes, zines, recipe cards, menus and short manuals.

Beyond the layout itself, the tool adds the finishing touches a print job often needs. Output sheets can be A3, A4, A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid or a custom millimetre size, in portrait, landscape or an automatically chosen orientation. A watermark — Confidential, Draft or your own text — can be stamped across every sheet, and you can add a header, a footer, the date and sheet numbers. For anyone preparing artwork for a commercial printer, crop marks and registration marks can be drawn at the sheet edges to guide trimming and colour alignment. You can also limit the job to a page range or to odd/even pages, fill the last sheet with blanks so it prints cleanly, and choose an optimised, object-stream save to keep the file small. A live PDF.js preview shows the imposed sheet before you commit, with zoom and page navigation so you can verify margins and scaling, and a PDF-information panel reports the source file's name, size, page count, version, orientation and paper size.

Everything is designed to be lightweight, fast and dependable on real documents. The imposition runs sheet by sheet with a progress bar, an estimate of the time remaining and the processing speed, so long jobs stay predictable; multiple PDFs can be queued and imposed together, then downloaded as a single ZIP. The layout is fully responsive and touch-friendly, so you can impose and download from a phone, and the controls are labelled and keyboard-operable for accessibility. Above all, it is private: your document — which may be a confidential report, an unpublished design or a personal record — is processed only in your browser and never uploaded, and the tool keeps working offline once loaded. Whether you are saving paper on a stack of handouts or turning a manuscript into a hand-folded booklet, this tool brings print-shop imposition to your own machine without cost, upload or compromise.

The same guide in Hindi /

Professional PDF Booklet & N-up Printing Tool
