⚠️ This is a simplified estimate for resident individuals / HUF, based on FY 2025-26 & 2026-27 (AY 2026-27 / 2027-28) slabs. It applies the standard deduction, Section 87A rebate, surcharge with marginal relief and 4% health & education cess. It does not model special-rate capital gains, business presumptive schemes, company/LLP flat rates, or every exemption. Tax laws change with each Budget — always verify on the official Income Tax Department portal (incometax.gov.in) or with a chartered accountant before filing.

    ℹ️ About This Tool

The Income Tax Calculator (India) is a fast, private, browser-based tool that estimates your income tax and — crucially — tells you which of India's two tax regimes actually saves you more money. Since the tax reforms, every individual taxpayer has to choose between the New Regime (lower headline rates but almost no deductions) and the Old Regime (higher rates but generous deductions for 80C investments, health insurance, HRA and home-loan interest). Which one is cheaper is genuinely not obvious from the rate tables alone: the answer flips depending on how much you can legitimately claim in deductions, and the only reliable way to know is to compute both, for your exact income, side by side. That is precisely what this calculator does — instantly, with a clear verdict, and without any of your numbers ever leaving your device.

You start by choosing the financial year (FY 2025-26 or FY 2026-27) and your age group, since the Old Regime gives a higher basic-exemption limit to senior (60–80) and super-senior (80+) citizens. You enter your gross annual income — the total of salary and every other head such as interest, rental and other income — and tick whether you are salaried or a pensioner, which unlocks the standard deduction (₹75,000 in the New Regime, ₹50,000 in the Old Regime). Then, for the Old Regime, you itemise your deductions: Section 80C (PPF, ELSS, EPF, LIC, principal repayment, tuition, NSC, Sukanya, tax-saver FD — capped at ₹1.5 lakh), 80CCD(1B) for the extra ₹50,000 NPS, 80D health insurance, home-loan interest under Section 24(b), your HRA exemption, savings-interest under 80TTA/80TTB, and a combined field for 80E/80G/80EEB and any other deductions. Employer NPS under 80CCD(2) gets its own field because it is one of the few deductions allowed under both regimes.

From these inputs the calculator computes, for each regime, the taxable income, the tax across the correct slabs, the Section 87A rebate (which makes income up to ₹12 lakh effectively tax-free in the New Regime and up to ₹5 lakh in the Old Regime), the surcharge for higher incomes with marginal relief applied, and the 4% health & education cess. It then places the two regimes in side-by-side cards, marks the cheaper one as Better, and shows you exactly how much tax you save by choosing it and the percentage difference. If you enter the TDS already deducted and any advance or self-assessment tax paid, it also works out your net tax payable or refund, plus a handy monthly and quarterly split for planning cash flow.

Because tax is easier to trust when you can see the working, every result is fully transparent. A live formula panel shows the slab and rebate logic for the winning regime, and a numbered step-by-step breakdown walks through taxable income, tax, rebate, surcharge, cess and total using your actual figures. A simple comparison chart shows the two regimes as proportional bars so the gap is obvious at a glance, and a detailed breakdown table lists every component. One-click copy buttons put the tax figure or a full plain-text summary on your clipboard, a share button uses your device's native share sheet, and the full export panel saves your calculation as a PDF, PNG image, CSV or Excel spreadsheet, or structured JSON — ideal for records, for your accountant, or for comparing scenarios.

The tool also keeps a local history of your recent calculations in your browser so you can revisit, compare and reuse them, download the whole log as CSV or JSON, or clear it in one click. Built-in reference material — a full tax-slab table for both regimes, the exact formulas, and worked examples — helps you sanity-check the numbers and understand how they are reached. Everything runs as JavaScript on your own machine, so the calculator is fast, works offline once loaded, and is completely private: your income, deductions and results are never uploaded to any server, there is no sign-up, and nothing is tracked against you.

Who is it for? Salaried employees deciding which regime to declare to their employer; freelancers and consultants estimating advance tax; small-business owners and professionals planning their liability; retirees checking senior-citizen benefits; and anyone doing year-end tax planning who wants to know, before committing, whether topping up 80C or claiming HRA is actually worth it. Whether you want a five-second regime comparison or a fully itemised, exportable tax estimate, this calculator is designed to be accurate for the common cases, clear about its assumptions, and effortless to use.

फिर Old Regime के लिए आप अपने deductions itemise करते हैं: 80C (PPF, ELSS, EPF, LIC, principal, tuition, NSC, Sukanya, tax-saver FD — अधिकतम ₹1.5 लाख), अतिरिक्त ₹50,000 NPS के लिए 80CCD(1B), 80D health insurance, Section 24(b) home-loan interest, आपका HRA exemption, 80TTA/80TTB savings-interest, और 80E/80G/80EEB व बाकी के लिए एक संयुक्त field।

    ❓ Frequently Asked Questions

    🛠️ Troubleshooting

    • Both regimes show ₹0 tax: After the standard deduction your taxable income is within the 87A rebate limit (₹12L New / ₹5L Old) — that is correct, not a bug.
    • Old Regime looks worse even with deductions: The New Regime's higher rebate and standard deduction often win unless your total deductions are large. Increase 80C/HRA/home-loan to see the crossover.
    • Deduction seems ignored: Statutory caps apply — 80C is limited to ₹1.5L, 80CCD(1B) to ₹50k, home-loan interest to ₹2L. Amounts above the cap are trimmed.
    • "Enter a valid income" message: Income must be a positive number below the maximum. Remove letters, symbols and negative values.
    • PDF/PNG export not working: These use a library loaded from the internet. Offline, use Print or the CSV/Excel/JSON exports, which always work.
    • My employer's figure differs: Employers may include perquisites, professional tax or other adjustments. Use your Form 16 gross salary and verify with your payroll or a CA.
    • History disappeared: History lives in your browser only. Clearing browser data or using private/incognito mode will not retain it.
